The Student Recruitment and Widening Participation team at Goldsmiths is committed to providing up to date information, advice and guidance to prospective university students and their support networks.

By working closely with academic departments at Goldsmiths the team delivers a wide range of activity - both on campus and in schools and colleges - to allow students to make informed choices about their future.

We have a wealth of experience and knowledge to support your school and college and look forward to working with you and your students. 

Our provision includes: campus visits, talks in schools and colleges, transition days, summer schools, academic taster sessions, progression schemes, student shadowing, virtual lectures and CPD opportunities for teachers and advisers.

Meet the team

 

James Ringer

James Ringer - Head of UK/EU Student Recruitment and Widening Participation

James is responsible for the strategic direction of the Student Recruitment and Widening Participation team and ensuring that the work we do contributes to Goldsmiths’ OFFA agreement and student recruitment objectives. James has worked in higher education throughout his career, having previously worked at Aston University, Anglia Ruskin University, Queen Mary University of London and the University of Reading.

Clare Allison

Clare Allison - Widening Participation Manager

Clare manages the Widening Participation team. She is responsible for managing the activities delivered by the team, which are designed to support students who are currently under-represented in higher education and encourage progression into HE / Goldsmiths. She manages school partnership programmes and school & college liaison activities, with the objective of raising the profile of Goldsmiths across all undergraduate degree programmes.

Becky Gardner

Becky Gardner – Student Ambassador Coordinator

Becky is responsible for nearly 200 Student Ambassadors who work for Goldsmiths. This diverse pool of enthusiastic students study a wide range of courses and have a variety of skills. They can attend Higher Education fairs, do personal statement checks in schools, give student life talks, lead subject sessions and much more. We are also in the process of setting up a mentoring programme. 

Jonathan Bridges

Jonathan Bridges – Widening Participation Officer

Jonathan heads up Realising Opportunities, a nationwide scheme which provides students with a series of enhanced university based learning experiences. He also manages our Summer School programme, delivering intensive week-long programmes allowing students to concentrate on a particular subject. Jonathan also heads up our creative outreach projects, which focus in developing culture capital and supporting creativity within learning. Alongside that, he assists with sixth form activity in schools and colleges local to Goldsmiths. Jonathan previously worked at Exeter and Sussex University in various roles.

Marlyee Copeland

Marlyee Copeland - Widening Participation Coordinator (Pre-16)

Marlyee works within our Widening Participation team and coordinates a range of activities designed to engage and raise the aspirations of primary and secondary school aged students within the local area. She also coordinates the National Art and Design Saturday Club and the Goldsmiths Music Saturday club. Marlyee joins us from previously working within a secondary school in East London.  

Natalie Wood

Natalie Wood - NCOP Outreach Coordinator

Natalie coordinates Goldsmith’s partnership with Linking London and targeted work for the National Collaborative Outreach Programme.  She is responsible for working with FE and BTEC college learners and supports a number of projects within the Widening Participation and Recruitment team.

Peggy Cooke

Peggy Cooke - Widening Participation Officer

Peggy’s role is to promote and support access to higher education for groups currently underrepresented within universities. This involves developing outreach projects that work with: care leavers and looked after children, forced migrants, mature and access students, estranged learners and disabled learners. Peggy can provide support for individuals or groups through the decision making and application processes, organise tailored campus visits and provide advice on student finance including scholarships and bursaries for specific groups.

Elizabeth Farnhill

Elizabeth Farnhill - UK Student Recruitment Manager

Elizabeth manage the recruitment team and oversee market research and data analysis. Her focus is working with post-16 schools and colleges and covers fostering new partnerships with school, college and teacher networks; liaising with selected schools and colleges in the North of England; and supporting information, advice and guidance provision for nominated schools in and around London. Elizabeth has substantial experience of devising innovative, interactive talks and workshops that provide a fresh perspective on post-18 options for students, parents, advisors and teachers.

Andy Roper

Andy Roper - Student Recruitment and Widening Participation Coordinator

Andy works across the Student Recruitment and Widening Participation teams, supporting events and activities. He organises involvement at UCAS exhibitions and events at schools and colleges around the country and delivers workshops and talks on all areas of higher education and progression. Andy previously studied at the University of Leicester. 

Emma Sheldon

Emma Sheldon – Student Recruitment Officer

Emma runs the Goldsmiths Progression Scheme for sixth form and college students, providing a series of in-depth subject specific learning experiences alongside events supporting progression onto Higher Education. She organises videoconference webinars and talks, bringing academics into classrooms across the UK and Europe. She is responsible for the Recruitment & Widening Participation team social media channels and supports activities with students of all ages from schools and colleges across London. Emma joins us from previously working in Recruitment and Widening Participation at Cardiff University and the University of Cumbria.

Lee McMahon

Lee McMahon - Student Recruitment and Outreach Officer

Lee runs Goldclasses, our masterclass programme for Year 12 students designed to introduce them to University lecturing. He also heads up the Goldsmiths Young Writer Prize, a short story competition for 16-18 year olds. Lee coordinates the annual Teachers and Advisers Conference held at Goldsmiths as well as offering talks and workshops areas such as Creative Careers and Student Finance. Lee joined the team from The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama.

Lindsay Stewart

Lindsay Stewart - Postgraduate & EU Recruitment Manager

Lindsay is responsible for the recruitment of postgraduate students at Goldsmiths, including taught and research degrees. She also manages our EU recruitment activity. She attends events throughout the UK and Europe, speaking to students, parents and teachers, and coordinates on-campus activities for potential Postgraduate and EU students. Lindsay has over 10 years of experience in international higher education, having worked in recruitment, admissions, and marketing for public and private institutions, in the UK and abroad.

Dominic Grego

Dominic Grego - EU Recruitment Officer

Dominic is responsible for implementing Goldsmiths’ student recruitment strategy in Switzerland and throughout the European Union. Dominic travels regularly in the region, attending higher education fairs, visiting schools and universities and building relationships with guidance counsellors and education professionals, promoting the institution’s offering at every level of study.
